What "Gëlle Fra" represents?

The Gëlle Fra ("Golden Lady") in Luxembourg City is a prominent war memorial on Constitution Square, erected in 1923 to honor Luxembourgers who died serving in Allied forces during World War I.

The “Gëlle Fra” (Golden Lady) disappeared for over 40 years.

After the Nazis dismantled the monument in 1940, parts of it were hidden and thought to be lost.

The statue itself wasn't rediscovered until 1980, after which the monument was painstakingly reconstructed and returned to its original location in 1984.

Today, it stands not only as a war memorial but also as one of the strongest symbols of Luxembourg's resilience and identity.

It symbolizes freedom, national independence, and resistance, serving as a memorial for victims of WWI, WWII, and the Korean War.
