A medieval castle set high above the village of Clervaux in the Luxembourg Ardennes, originally built in the 12th century, destroyed during the Second World War and carefully restored by the Luxembourg state. The white walls rising above the valley make it one of the most recognisable and beautiful castles in the country. Inside, it houses three permanent collections: a museum dedicated to the Battle of the Bulge, a collection of models of Luxembourg's castles, and most importantly The Family of Man, one of the most important photography exhibitions ever created. The 503 photographs by 273 photographers from 68 countries have been permanently installed here since 1994, on the wishes of their creator Edward Steichen, who was born in Luxembourg. Since 2003 the exhibition has been listed on UNESCO's Memory of the World register. Worth a detour from anywhere in the country.
